But when it comes to the details and processes that led up to this information, we aren’t as clear.
Terms like litigation, eDiscovery, and ESI—and how they all relate–can be confusing. As a leader in the Information Governance and eDiscovery sphere, IPRO knows how useful it is to have a solid grasp on these concepts, and we are here to help!

An overview of litigation and eDiscovery
The eDiscovery learning path is organized into three sections.
The first few lessons provide an overview of litigation and the early stages of civil procedure. During this portion of the course, we cover the basics of the litigation process, including how legal cases are started, what types of litigation exist in the US legal system, and information on different types of hearings that are held in the early stages of a case. These lessons summarize the most important information and provide definitions of some of the most commonly used legal terms.
Once you have a solid foundation in these concepts, you’ll move on to eDiscovery, a topic of particular interest for IPRO product users.
The eDiscovery portion of the course consists of three lessons. The first covers electronically stored information/ESI. In this lesson, we provide examples of ESI and summarize the unique challenges involved in collecting and storing it. You’ll also find information on the best practices for preserving ESI in a legally defensible matter.
From here, we branch out to discuss the discovery process in general, including the steps to create an effective discovery plan, available ESI collection methodologies, and various options for ESI review.
Finally, the course will examine different technologies that have been developed to assist with eDiscovery. We’ll review tools such as email threading, clustering, and predictive coding, showing you how they work and how they can be used to make eDiscovery more effective, more efficient, and less tedious.
The basics of trial preparation
The final section of the course covers the basics of trial. Here, we’ll cover the jury selection process and types of evidence that you’ll see presented in court. We’ll also discuss key elements of a trial, including opening statements, witness examination, and closing arguments.
The lesson closes out with a description of different potential outcomes that might result from trial.
While the learning path covers a lot of ground, each lesson within a course is only 3-10 minutes long, so you can finish the learning path in less than an hour.
Or, if you only need to cover some of the subject matter, you can pick and choose only the courses you need. Your progress will be saved as you go, allowing you to pick up right where you left off!
